Reclad design

This project involved the transformation of an existing dwelling shaped by multiple renovations and additions over time. The original house was constructed with a concrete structure and later altered through a series of upgrades and extensions, including substantial add-ons completed in the early 2000s. As a result, the building evolved into a large but visually fragmented home without a clear architectural narrative.

The recladding strategy required careful consideration. Introducing new cladding that complies with contemporary performance standards meant the house could no longer rely on a monolithic appearance. Instead, the design embraced a contemporary language expressed through a combination of carefully selected materials. Non-concrete elements were replaced with modern systems, allowing the architecture to read as deliberate rather than accumulated.

The owners’ vision was to create a contemporary home that feels resolved and architecturally confident. Rather than forcing a single material expression, the design approach focused on composing multiple claddings in a way that feels intentional, balanced and coherent, while respecting the original concrete structure and delivering a refined, well-finished exterior.
